Scarves are commonly used in the winters everywhere in the world. They are called by different names in different places. In India they are also known as "mufflers". These are almost always smaller than stoles in size and are primarily used in the winters to keep the neck & upper body warm and covered. Scarves in silks are also used to accessorize especially silk scarves. Cotton scarves are used extensively in the summer time. Women often cover their heads and faces to avoid the tropical heat.
