Earthenware

Earthenware is considered coarser and more porus than either stoneware or porcelain. It can either be decorated with slip (liquid clay mixture) or glazed. This form is popular mainly amongst studio potters. Terracotta is the more common form of pottery using a mix of the basic elements, earth (clay), water and fire. The decorative elements come from designs carved into wet clay or creating new forms using the traditional wheel. Clay is dried in the sun before being fired in the traditional kiln.
