Magic in the hands of Okhamandal women and the colors of the environs of rural Gujarat - this is what the brand Okhai is all about. Based in the Okhamandal region in Gujarat (from where the brand gets it’s name), it is a drought prone region and handicrafts has been identified as an promising alternative for women in the region. The women from the tribes of Ahirs, Rabaris, & Charans, and communities like the Lohanas & Harijans, have been endowed by excellent skills in embroidery, appliqué, mirror work & patchwork. Okhai has used several traditional patterns and stitches to create outstanding products for personal use. Okhai is an initiative of the Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development with an aim of providing empowerment in rural India.
